Hermielle was one of the privelaged few in the old days able to use magic. She thought that it was not fair to the Humans that they were denied the power. She made a magical orb in the shape of the midnight sun. She channeled much of her power into it. In the end she had found a way to channel her magic into the gem but only with a great toll on herself. She had given magic to the human race but her own powers dwindled to a fraction of what they were.
Hermielle still fancies herself as an overlord. In all reality she is the supreme ruler of Lotte, but she has no influence on anyone outside of the Maelstrom and Lotte's sister island of Apple. She came to power after saving the country of Lotte from invaders. Since this event she has tried desperately to escape the twin islands and extend her rule
